Fiona has a broad commercial and legal background which allows her to provide commercially pragmatic legal solutions for her clients and provide a strong strategic dimension to matters she deals with.
Her practice is diverse, although the matters she deals with are generally connected to the financial services industry. She is skilled at all legal aspects of unregistered schemes (advice, licensing, structuring and dispute resolution), and worked in the funds management industry before her admission as a solicitor. She is also very experienced with matters relating to the financial planning industry including structuring practices, employment law matters, client complaints, restraints of trade and disputes between licensees and representatives.
She commenced legal practice at Clayton Utz and Herbert Smith Freehills where she worked in the taxation divisions. Prior to establishing Halsey & Associates (the precursor to Halsey Legal), she was a director and in-house counsel for international accounting firm Ernst & Young.
Fiona is also active in litigation and dispute resolution. She regularly represents clients in matters in the District, Supreme and Federal Courts. Her broad commercial experience means that she is especially skilled at achieving results through negotiation.
Since less than 5% of litigation matters are resolved through trial, it is increasingly important for any client involved in dispute resolution to engage a solicitor who has effective tactical and negotiation skills. Fiona brings strong representation, but also a sound practical understanding of the commercial aspects and consequences of disputes – especially when negotiating settlements.
